If there is one thing we want to get positive, it’s our business success (not a swab test result). Good thing, things are looking up for the Philippine Construction industry as reported by The Business Times:
AFTER suffering a heavy blow from the Covid-19 pandemic, the construction industry in the Philippines is expected to bounce back in 2021 and grow at an annual average rate of 8.3 per cent from then till 2024, taking its output value up to US$75.1 billion that year, said data and analytics firm GlobalData in an August 20 note.
The report noted that construction work has resumed since mid-May, and the resumption of infrastructure projects became a key driver in an economic revival, not least with the US$18.9 billion Build, Build, Build (BBB) programme that had been planned prior to the pandemic.
Additionally, government data backs a 1.1 trillion pesos allocation for public infrastructure in the 4.5 trillion peso (US$92.4 billion) national budget for the 2021 financial year. This is meant to support the major flagship projects under the BBB programme of the Duterte administration.
The Business Mirror shares the same sentiment:
Confidence is growing that the Philippine economy will rebound in 2021 despite the pandemic’s economic impact and the P16 billion damage and losses to infrastructure and agriculture wrought by Typhoon Ulysses in Luzon. The government’s “Build, Build, Build” program and the private sector’s rebuilding efforts will help fuel next year’s economic growth. This is good news for the country’s construction industry, which saw a 33-percent contraction in the second quarter due to strict quarantine controls implemented to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
